A much quieter week for the club this week with only a few races on the calendar. The first event attended by our members this week was the local parkruns. There was some great racing at MUSA between some of our lads this week which generated a few PBs.

Also on Saturday morning we had a great crowd of Acorns attend a local run in Moneymore. It was a beautiful morning in moneymore as the sun shone for the 5K and 10K races. Acorns put on a great performance winning prizes in both events. First home was Diarmuid Logan winning the 5K in a time of 18.42, Oli Murphy was next gone in 3rd place overall in 20.19. Lisa Simpson was 1st female home in the race with a time of 20.50 and Suzanne Bigmore had a great run in a time of 23.51 finishing 3rd female. Jack McBride and Ronan Lindsay had great runs finishing being first junior runners home in the race with times of 20.55 and 23.35. In the 10K race again Acorns were having great runs on another difficult course. Jonathan Dempsey was first Acorn home in 3rd place overall in a time of 40.13. Pat Groogan was next home, winning his age category in a time of 42.19. Denise Dallas was first female home in the race in a time of 51.39, with Wendy Walker not too far behind in 53.46 bagging herself 3rd female. Bridie Young won her age category and Geraldine Mallon was 2nd in her age category. Big well done to the organisers of the event, there was a great atmosphere and we hope a lot of money was raised for local charity Zest, which aims to help those who are suffering with emotional pain and hurt.

On Sunday morning the weather had took a big change from Saturday with a lot of wind and rain during the night and with the heavy rain still falling a few Acorns travelled to the Waterside Half Marathon in Derry/Londonderry. The rain had caused areas of the course to be waterlogged so athletes now were faced with that as well as the challenge of completing the course, which started with a gradual climb with some small downhills before reaching the Foyle bridge at the 6mile mark which was a long tough incline for approximately a mile before heading downhill and staying relatively flat to the finish line in St. Columb’s Park. Great running from all our members in such difficult conditions. Results are as follows;

Aidan O Hagan 1.19.52
Martin Loughran 1.22.37
Martin McGirr 1.27.29
Leanne Sands 1.45.27

On Sunday afternoon we had Acorns who took part in the Laganside 10k in the heart of Belfast on a flat and fast course. A very well established race which attracts a lot of Northern Irelands fastest runners. First over the line for AcornsAC, was a man in form, Eoin Hughes who crossed the line in a great time of 34.18 in 14th place. This was closely followed by Aaron Meharg in 34.34 in 15th place overall, Michael Gillespie and Natalie Hall were next home in 38.42 and 40.02 respectively, with Eoin Conway home in 41.18 and the ever improving Sinead Mulgrew in 63.24 with a new PB.
