This week saw Acorns attending events all over the country but action kicked off on Wednesday night at the Edwin May Nissan Classic 5 Mile in Coleraine hosted by Springwell running club. A race which is fairly flat led to record breaking performances from our members as not only was there numerous personal bests gained we also had a new club record set over the 5 mile distance achieved by our always improving Eoin Hughes in a time of 25.43 and also finishing 3rd overall in the race. Also on Wednesday night Acorn Martin McGirr who today ran in the Jog in the Bog 5K finishing 13th out of 324 runners in a time of 18.54.


On Friday night our very own Vice Chairman, Oli Murphy travelled to Mallusk to take part in their annual 5 Mile race. 312 people took part in the race starting on the Mallusk Rd, after the first 400 metres there is a steady climb of about 1.5 miles, levelling out with most of the final mile downhill. Oli crossed the line in a great time of 34.22, beating last years effort.


On Friday evening we also had two of our ladies take part in the BST 11K Road Race. A race which was all about the number 11, being held on the 11th, starting at 7.11pm and running an 11K distance. Natalie Hall had a great run finishing 1st Female in a time of 41.40, on a fairly flat and fast course, with Joanne coming over the line in a time of 59.57.


As usual every Saturday morning our members are in high attendance at local Parkruns.

Acorn Linda Espie travelled to Co.Armagh on Saturday to take part in the I Care 10k Purple Run in the ideal setting of Gosford Forest Park. Linda finished the race in a time of 60.09

Acorns Steven Mulholland and Patsi Doey took part in the Lough Neagh Triathlon ‘Super Sprint’ on Saturday. Patsi took part in the Try to Tri race finishing in a time of 65.50. Steven took part in the Sprint race completing it in 72.08 and finishing in 9th position out of over 100 athletes.

Barry Loughran, in his preparation for Berlin Marathon ran the Groomsport Half Marathon on Saturday finishing in a great time of 1.39.23. He was even our the next morning at training in Davagh. We have some very dedicated athletics in our club.

On Saturday Padraig O’Kane completed the East Cork Harbour Marathon in a great time of 4.31.39. This was Padraig’s 1st Marathon, he was testing out the water before taking on his main target which is the Dublin Marathon on October.

On Sunday Karl Murphy completed the Monaghan 5 Mile Run in a time of 43.20 on a challenging and hilly course in warm conditions.

Over the weekend we had a group of Acorns who travelled to Dublin to take part in the Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K and Half Marathon. The 5K took place on Saturday morning and the Half Marathon on Sunday. Our members had a blast at a great event. Results are as follows;
