Yet another busy weekend for Acorns AC which started on Friday night with Acorns Natalie Hall running a new PB to finish 2nd female in the Les Jones 10K behind Judith Lonnen in 1st place and in front of Denise Logue in 3rd place. In wet conditions Natalie ran a strong race which had a tough hill towards the finish, but Natalie knew she was on her way to a new PB and this got her over that hill to the finish line in a time of 39.20.

 

On Saturday Acorns Steven Mulholland, Kevin Conway and Stephen Kerr took part in the Roe Valley Sprint Triathlon, Steven Mulholland finished in a great time of 1.07.49 followed by Kevin in 1.19.38 and Stephen Kerr in 1.22.00.

Also on Saturday Eoin Hughes, Deirde Bradley and Bronagh Stockman took part in the Jengana 10K at Shanes Castle in Antrim. Jengana is a charity which helps those less fortune, focusing mainly in the slums of Kenya. Eoin ran a strong race and finished 2nd overall and Bronagh ran a fantastic race to finish with a new PB.

On Sunday Acorns Chris Jones and Stephanie Jones who took part in the Translink 5K at Ormeau Park, Belfast. Chris finished in a time of 24.56 and Stephanie in a time of 29.00.

Also on Sunday a group of Acorns made their way to the Lifford/ Strabane Half Marathon. The course was undulating and the athletes were faced with various weather conditions, although with a very warm start everyone was glad of a little rain later on to cool them down again. First Acorn to finish was Marsha Abbott in a great time if 1.47.11, followed by Damian Kelly in a PB time of 1.48.35 and then Denise Dallas in 1.52.51. Well done to Damian, Padraig, Paul and Paula on your PBs and Paula’s first half marathon. Great team spirit through all the club members today.

Also on Sunday Bronagh Stockman took part in a Charity Run/walk around the Sperrin’s in aid of Breast Cancer. Bronagh had a great run and was First Lady home at this event.

On the May Day Bank Holiday many Acorns took part in the Belfast City Marathon weather it was the full distance or running legs in a relay team. Karen Alexander, Sam Linton and Gordon Linton completed the full 26.2 mile route around Belfast. Karen was first Acorn to finish in a super time of 3.00.16 and bagging herself first local female. Next over the line after chasing down and passing time pacers was Sam Linton in a fantastic time of 3.03.28, Sam was using this as a training run for another event he has planned for later in the year. Next to finish was Gordon Linton in a great time of 3.41.29. Conor Lynn started the race but unfortunately had to pull out, Conor will be us the invaluable experienced gained and is back at training fully focused on his next target. Other Acorns members represented Orritor, Coagh and Donaghy Primary Schools, Tobermore Concrete and Translink in the relay event.
