This week Acorns were in high attendance at events all over the country. Colm Mullan started of action this week by travelling to Convoy, Co. Donegal to take part in the Convoy 5K. Colm had a good run and finished the race in a time of 18.06.


Wednesday night saw the club host their own event, “Night of 3000m”, which saw athletes across the country travel to Meadowbank Sports Arena, to take part in three difference races. All athletes put on superb performances and give spectators a lot of excitement with some very tight racing. Acorns AC would like to thank all the clubs and individuals who made this such a successful event.

Wednesday was a busy night for Acornsas athletes also had members take part in the An Creggan 5K trail race and the Centra Run Together 5K in Derry/Londonderry. Chris Jones and wife Stephanie ran together finishing in a time of 28.08. Gary McGuckin also took part in the event running with wife Amanda and son Orry George. Acorns also put on a fine performance at An Creggan with Michael Gillespie taking 2nd overall and Orlagh Brownlow recording a new PB.

Thursday evening was just as busy for our Acorns as some travelled to Coalisland to take part in the Keep er Lit 10K and 5K races. A race which was advertised as a PB course so sure to attract some great athletes. Acorns Natalie Hall put on an impressive performance coming in 2nd lady in a new PB time of 39.19. A big well done to the Keep er Lit running club for organising such an successful event.

Also on Thursday night Acorns, Eoin Hughes, Stacey Hinfey and Edel McGuckin took part in a 10K race at Junction One, Antrim as part of Antrims Summer Festival. Eoin Hughes won the race in a time of 35.44. Stacey Hinfey completed the race in a time of 50.03 winning her age category and Edel finished in a time of 54.24.


On Saturday morning Acorns were out in force again all over the country. There was a great turnout of members at the Loup 10K and 5K races and what a performance they put on with prizes galore. In the 10K race there was a very close sprint finish to the line between Aaron Meharg and Darrell McKee with Aaron just gettin the win and setting a new course record, with a time of 34.20 followed by Darrell in 34.21, Glenn Donnelly making a return from injury too 3rd place overall with a time of 35.23. In the ladies race team captain, Leanne Sands took 1st place in a time of 44.51 and Ciara Goddard was 2nd lady with a time of 45.37. Denise Dallas took 1st place in her age category.

In the 5K race Sam Linton took victory with a time of 17.21. Stacey Hinfey was 2nd lady in a time of 23.04 and Marsha Abbott and Margaret McKee were 1st in their age category. A big thank you to the Loup GAC for organising such a great event.

Acorns Eoin Hughes travelled to Phoenix Park in Dublin to take part in the Irish Runner 5 Miller. Eoin finished the race in a time of 29.28 and was 47th out of almost 2000 runners.


Acorns Steven Mulholland and Stephen Kerr took part in the Causeway Coast Triathlon which was also on Saturday morning. A tough course, but the lads put on a great performance, with Steven Mulholland finishing in 2 hours 28minutes and Stephen Kerr not far behind in 2 hours 43minutes.
