Another busy week for our Acorns members. Some of our members took part in local race, the Brackaghreilly 5 miler on Wednesday night. Even while on holidays Acorns are popping up and taking part in races. Acorn Ilze Pastare while on holiday in Latvia completed a 6km Trail run and her family did a 1km trail run.

Sunday was a very busy day for Acorns AC as we had members taking part in three different events. We had members taking on the gruelling 13.1miles around Cookstown Half Marathon. On a day that had been forecast with thunderstorms everyone was very shocked to see the sun make an unwelcome appearance as the added heat made conditions very tough on an already very tough hilly course. Eoin Hughes was first Acorn to finish, in 2nd place overall in a time of 1.20.39. Jay Crean was next Acorn to complete the distance in a time of 1.35.20 followed by Brian Thom in a time of 1.41.00. Robin Abbott, husband of Acorns member Marsha Abbott, presented The Abbott Family Trophy to Eoin Hughes for being the first Acorn member to finish.

Eoin Hughes 1.20.39 2nd place.

Acorns also took part in Divis 10k Trail Run. As the runners collected their race packs Divis mountain in the distance was shrouded in mist but as the race got underway the mist lifted and conditions turned out really good for running. A steady first mile and a half climb up a rocky narrow path to the top of Divis mountain. Then a breather as the next mile was downhill with great views over Belfast and Strangford Loughs. Then the second steady climb to the top of Black’s mountain and more great views over the top towards the Mournes, but little time for sightseeing as the next three mile was a twisty undulating stone path around Black’s mountain and a final turn back unto the home straight to the finish.

Gary McGuckin 46.00
Jennifer Bradley 56.00 Age Cat Prize
Oli Murphy 56.00
Bronagh Stockman 66.00

We even had Acorns travelled a little further afield as Ailis Corey claimed Silver in the 3k walk at the British Transplant Games in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
