Acorns pick up prizes at Omagh Half Marathon

Another very busy week for the club with Queens 3K and 5K, Sperrin Harriers Winter League prize giving, Omagh Half Marathon and 5K Fun Run and local Parkruns. As per usual there was great attendance and support from Acorns AC at these events.

Queens 5K and 3K

On Wednesday night Acorns travelled to Belfast to take part in the popular Deep River Rock Queens races, which saw over 1000 runners take part in the Race around the River. This year the race was deemed championship stature and would therefore attract runners of a very high calibre, for example Olympian athlete Kerry O’Flaherty. First up was the 3K event which took on one and two third laps around the River Lagan. Young athlete Andrew Shaw was first Acorn to finish with an impressive time of 11.03 and a new PB, followed shortly by Brian Thom in a new PB of 11.18. Next to the line was another little Acorn, Daire Hinfey who was determined to beat his mother and finished in a great time of 12.14 and yet another PB but his mother was too far behind and Stacey Hinfey finished the race in 12.48 bagging herself a PB as well. Watch out for our up and coming young athletes who continue to impress us all with their performances. The 5K event followed shortly after and this would see athlete complete two and three quarter laps of the river. First Acorn to finish was Darrell McKee in a time of 16.00, followed closely by Aaron Meharg with a time of 16.07, next Acorn up was Kevin Bigmore with a PB time of 17.20. First of our female athletes to finish was Natalie Hall in a time of 19.13 showing that she is defiantly recovering well from her recent injury, next lady to finish was our ladies Vice Captain Sandra McKeown in a time of 20.49 with ladies Captain Leanne Sands following not too far behind in a time of 20.49. Acorns would like to thank Queens University for hosting yet another very successful event.
